Darth Malgus short story to appear in Star Wars Insider #124:
Posted: 29th December
When Paul S. Kemp, author of the forthcoming The Old Republic: Deceived novel, recently announced that he is to pen a Darth Malgus short story to be published in an upcoming issue of Star Wars Insider magazine it was expected that it would be published prior to the March 2011 release of The Old Republic: Deceived. It now appears that Paul's short story will appear in Star Wars Insider #124, also due for release in March as solicitations in the latest Previews magazine state that Star Wars Insider #124 will feature "all-new exclusive Star Wars fiction". As no other (short-story) fiction has been announced, we assume that Star Wars Insider #124 will contain Paul's short story.
Although such solicitations can sometimes prove to be erroneous, Star Wars Insider #124 is due for release a week before the US release of The Old Republic: Deceived and presents an ideal opportunity to publish this new short story prior to the release of the novel.

Posted: 29th December
Dark Horse Comics has posted a six-page preview[External site - opens in a new window/tab] for the fourth issue of Knight Errant: Aflame by John Jackson Miller with art by Ivan Rodriguez:

Complete annihilation has not come to the planet of Chelloa by the hand of Sith Lord Odion, but a war between him and his rival brother, Lord Daiman, might not leave much of the planet for either of them to rule. It’s up to Kerra to find the advantage in the rivalry between the two Sith.

Knight Errant: Aflame #4 is due for release on 12th January 2011.

Posted: 17th December
Tsuneo Sanda, cover artist for Dark Horse Comics' upcoming mini-series Darth Vader & the Lost Command, has created a Holidays video-card[External site - opens in a new window/tab] for this series based on his cover artwork.
The first issue of Darth Vader & the Lost Command by Haden Blackman with art by Rick Leonardi is due for release on 26th January: Still haunted by the events in Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader must set aside his past and put his future on hold for a mission to the mysterious Ghost Nebula to locate and if possible, rescue a missing Imperial expeditionary force. But what seems a perfect opportunity to lose himself in his duty is complicated by two factors: he is paired with a wilful yet highly competent co-commander, and the officer they are being sent to locate is the son of Vader’s rising nemesis, Moff Tarkin.

Fourth A Long Time Ago... Omnibus volume due early Summer 2011:
Posted: 13th December
Following the tradition of interspersing releases of their A Long Time Ago... Omnibus editions between regular Omnibus releases, it appears that Dark Horse Comics will be releasing the next volume in this series, Volume 4, in early Summer 2011 after the release of At War with the Empire... Volume 1 Omnibus in April.
Amazon.co.uk[External site - opens in a new window/tab] has listed the UK edition (as published by Titan Books) of A Long Time Ago... Volume 4 and given it a UK release date of April 22nd 2011. However, this date will be too early for even a US release never mind a UK release, but if At War with the Empire... Volume 1 is released as scheduled then we can expect A Long Time Ago... Volume 4 no more than two months later - placing its US release around late May/early June (UK edition normally follows four to six weeks later).
Although Amazon does not list the actual contents of this issue it does state a page count of 488 pages (just 8 more pages than the two previous volumes), even allowing for errors we can speculate that this fourth volume would collate issues #68 thru to around #81/#82 plus the four-issue comic adaptation of Return of the Jedi and third king-sized annual from 1983. This would leave the final 25 or so issues of the US Marvel Comics line to be published later in A Long Time Ago... Volume 5.

Star Wars short stories could return to Insider magazine:
Posted: 10th December
Following Paul S. Kemp's recent Twitter announcement[External site - opens in a new window/tab] that he is to pen a Darth Malgus short story to be published in an upcoming issue of Star Wars Insider magazine, LucasBooks' Executive Editor Sue Rostoni has confirmed via the StarWars.com Forums[External site - opens in a new window/tab] that "Insider, Del Rey, and we [LucasBooks] are exploring how to best present original short stories -- so hopefully there will be more on the way".
Publishing original short stories was once a regular feature of Star Wars Insider but, as affiliate EUCantina.net
[External site - opens in a new window/tab] points out, it has been four years since an original short story was published in Star Wars Insider : Ghosts of the Sith by Jude Watson (a tie-in to her ten-book Last of the Jedi series) in Star Wars Insider #88 was the last such short story to be published in a copy of Star Wars Insider.

Darth Malgus short story coming soon in Star Wars Insider:
Posted: 1st December
Author Paul S. Kemp (Crosscurrent) has announced via Twitter[External site - opens in a new window/tab] that he has "Turned in a draft of a shorty short story to appear in Star Wars Insider. It stars Darth Malgus and is set before the events of Deceived."
Although Paul gives no indication of when Star Wars Insider will publish his "shorty short story", the novel he has written which chronicles Darth Malgus's rise to power, Deceived, is due for release in March 2011, so we should expect it to be published fairly soon. If Star Wars Insider does publish Paul's short story, this will mark a return after several years of original Star Wars short stories being published in Star Wars Insider.
