Empire & Rebellion: Honor Among Thieves
By James S. A. Corey
Reviewed by Ewan, Star Wars Books & Comics
This is a fine example of the characterization of Han Solo during the Classic period [...] a story of Han Solo the smuggler, Han Solo the rogue, Han Solo the scoundrel that we all remembered, loved and admired from the Original Trilogy [...] Corey maintains not only a fast-pace in the story telling but also a logical progression from act to act [...] in no doubt throughout that this is Han's story [...] not since Brian Daley's radio drama has the Han Solo of A New Hope been captured so well in print...read full review

William Shakespeare's The Empire Striketh Back
By Ian Doescher
Reviewed by Ewan, Star Wars Books & Comics
The Empire Strikes Back works much better as a Shakespearean play than A New Hope as it contains all the themes of a good Shakespearean drama: comedy, love, betrayal, fights and of course tragedy [...] Fans of Shakespeare will love finding references to other works by the Bard, even the occasional nod to one of his characters [...] Empire is Luke's tragedy and this is never forgotten by Doescher [...] created some truly beautiful soliloquies for Luke [...] If you got a kick from Doescher's Verily, A New Hope then The Empire Striketh Back is a worthy successor...read full review

Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void
By Tim Lebbon
Reviewed by Ewan, Star Wars Books & Comics
A good introduction to the Dawn of the Jedi era [...] an interesting dynamic between the main story's protagonist and antagonist and it is more than just simple sibling rivalry [...] flashbacks are where the reader can emphasise the strongest with both characters' perceptions of the Force [...] Unfortunately as the main story focuses on Lanoree's journey [...] our empathy is flavoured to be one-sided [...] nice touch in this story is the sense of world-building [...] a cast of strong, believable characters and a plot that engages both his characters and the reader...read full review

[ Insider ] Insider to feature exclusive Battle of Endor short story
The official Del Rey Star Wars Books Facebook page[External site - opens in a new window/tab] has announced more exclusive short story fiction for forthcoming issues of Star Wars Insider magazine:

We’re thrilled to announce that David J. Williams and Mark S. Williams, authors of the short story, “Maze Run” (that appeared in Star Wars Insider Magazine 131) are penning a new two-part series for Star Wars Insider Magazine. Inspired by the accompanying artwork, created for Return of the Jedi depicting a battle that was never seen in the film, “Blade Squadron” chronicles the story of an elite squad of rebel B-wing pilots on a suicide mission during the Battle of Endor. The events of the tale were written as if they were deleted scenes from the original film, and are rife with knuckle-whitening action and compelling new characters, while the inimitable Chris Trevas will be providing all-new art for the tale. Here’s a little taste of what’s to come:
"How was this possible? How had the mightiest space force ever assembled been bested by a bunch of misfits, rejects, and malcontents?"
"Blade Squadron" Part 1 will debut in Star Wars Insider #149, which goes on-sale April 22.

Part one of Blade Squadron will appear in Star Wars Insider #149 [US] / #125 [UK], due for publication late-April.

[ Marvel ] Marvel meet with Lucasfilm to discuss Star Wars comics
According to BleedingCool.com[External site - opens in a new window/tab], last week Marvel executives met with Lucasfilm representatives to discuss Star Wars comics:

I hear gossip that that Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, and executives CB Cebulski and Jordan D White visited LucasFilm [sic] last week for discussions about Star Wars comics.
I’m told that we’re looking at a couple of monthly series but creative teams are not yet settled. I’m told that we’re looking at a couple of monthly series but creative teams are not yet settled. Though I’ve been advised to look for a writer who has just left a popular project and a popular indie writer with Image work and a recently finished Marvel Now title…

While this meeting is as yet unconfirmed by either Marvel or Lucasfilm, if true it shows that Marvel are seriously considering a future for Star Wars comic titles. Of course "a couple of monthly titles" is less than Dark Horse Comics' current output of four/five titles per month, but then it took Dark Horse several years to obtain this level of output after they obtained the license in 1991. Given the uncertainty the Star Wars Expanded Universe is currently experiencing at present - any post-Jedi stories are on hold in anticipation of Episode VII - two titles per month beginning next year would be a great start to Marvel's Star Wars license.
